Job Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the General Dentist is responsible for providing direct patient services by delivering comprehensive, quality dental care in an ambulatory care setting. As a member of the healthcare team, the General Dentist will also work in conjunction with the Executive Team in the formulation and execution of policy in those matters relevant to the provision of high quality, dental care. The General Dentist may also be directed by the CEO and the Director of Health Services to perform other duties in accordance with funding requirements, contractual agreements, and policies, procedures, and protocols established by the Federally Qualified Health Center grant.

Essential Responsibilities
Patient Services:
      • Examines individuals requesting care, diagnosis their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out appropriate dental/oral treatment, or refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
      • Diagnoses and treats disease, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums, and related oral structures.
      • Caps injured teeth and fills cavities.
      • Ability to place braces on teeth to straighten or align them, or when warranted able to refer the patients to an Orthodontist.
      • Designs and makes dentures to replace missing or diseased teeth.
      • Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
      • Records patient-dentist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.


Administrative Duties:
      • Responsible for personal full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of dental care.
      • Establishes and/or maintains ongoing development and implementation of dental policies, practices, and QA/QI dental procedures and initiatives.
      • Provides input and guidance to the Executive Team when designing, implementing and evaluating educational health programs for the patients and clinical staff.
      • Provides input as needed to those completing reports such as the UDS report.
      • In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), provides leadership and coordination of the dental care team, ensuring effective scheduling, workflow management, and operational efficiency within the dental department to support high-quality patient care..
      • Responsible for supervising and evaluations of all, Dental Assistants, and Sterilization techs,.
      • Active participant in QA meetings and occasionally JRF Board Meetings as it relates to dental.
      • Able to dedicate late hours on weekdays and hours on Saturday as future needs arise.
      • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:
      • Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of New Jersey.
      • Current CPR (BLS) certifications. ACLS preferred.
      • New Jersey CDS and DEA registrations.
      • Experience in a public health or community clinic setting providing primary care to patients from low-income economic status.
      • Interest in establishing and maintaining an efficient dental care system in a community health care center setting highly desirable.
      • Authoritative knowledge of the principles of practice, principles of general management, specifically in personnel management and techniques in running a dental practice in a community health center.
      • Clinical leadership skills, clinical staff development, case management, and clinical protocol development experience preferred.
      • Knowledge and ability to use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
      • Ability to teach and educate effectively.
      • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
      • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
      • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
      • Familiarity with the Federal and State rules, regulations, and practices pertaining to a Federally Qualified Health Center preferred.
      • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial, religious, ethnic and professional backgrounds
      • Adequate vision, sight, speech, and hearing to meet core duties of the position.
      • Ability  to reach, stoop, walk, and lift 25 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
