Job Summary:
As a member of the healthcare team, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) works interdependently with other health care professionals to provide quality health care to the patient. The CMA assists patients and their families in all aspects of their clinical interaction with their provider, and is an integral part of the Care Team, ensuring all patients have optimal health outcomes. The CMA is responsible for performing both administrative and clinical skills in the medical care environment. Reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer.As an FQHC, providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment at the JRF Community Health Center, unless a religious or medical exemption can be presented and granted by Employer.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; setting-up and cleaning-up examining room and ensuring rooms are well equipped with instruments, supplies, and equipment.

- Maintaining and updating required logs for ED visits and discharge summaries from hospitals.
- Participate in Care Team meetings (i.e. huddles) to prepare for patient visits and anticipate needs.
- Assist in the educational process during and after the visit, including translation of instructions, reviewing materials, answering questions, and ensuring that all questions are addressed by provider
- Assist the Provider/RN in facilitating patient flow.
- Assists the Provider/RN during examinations.
- Complete record release forms in EMR to obtain records from another office/facility.
- Obtains laboratory/radiology/ER/hospital reports prior to patient visit.
- Perform phlebotomies as per the provider orders and according to the standard procedures.
- Administers all types of vaccines and immunizations safely while demonstrating comfort and proficiency with the pediatric population, ensuring precise dosage tracking and meticulous documentation in strict compliance with New Jersey Medical Board standards.
- Immunization entry (old and new) in the patient’s EMR and NJIIS.
- Perform EKG’s
- Perform CLIA waived laboratory testing and enter results in EMR.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at ALL times.
- Document patient communication/messages in the patient’s EMR as per EMR Manual’s JRF MA workflow and MA Departmental Protocols.
- Assist with pre-authorizations for procedures and medications from the insurance companies
- Practicing OSHA safety standards.
- Performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
- Maintaining a respectful and professional attitude toward all staff and patients.
- Attends Staff meetings, trainings committee meetings, and any other mandatory meetings, if schedule allows.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Diploma from a technical school/ and national Medical Assistant certification from an accredited association such as CCMA or NHA.
- Experience in a public health or community clinic setting providing primary care to underserved communities.
- Working knowledge of EMR Record systems, eClinicalWorks (eCW) preferred.
- CPR certification required
- Bilingual preferred
- Able to demonstrate strong clinical skills, procedural skills, documentation skills, verbal communication skills, and medical teamwork
- Strong understanding of medical terminology
- Ability to observe safety and security procedures and report potentially unsafe conditions.
- Ability to use equipment and materials properly.
- Able to stand long hours.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with peoplefrom diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial, religious, ethnic and professional backgrounds.
- Adequate vision, sight, speech, and hearing to meet core duties of the position.
